portraitI am a self driven team player with a proven track record of analytical problem solving. Maintaining production efficiencies through planned maintenance procedures. Communicating production issues to management while driving lean principles across all departments. Sourcing, ordering and purchasing of automation equipment and spares. While being Project Leader on numerous projects, I was tasked with the design of concept through to machining, building programming of automats. While adhering to targets related to safety, quality and continuous improvement.


Key Achievements



• Attaining the role of automation technician from working as a toolmaker.
• Programming a new conveyor system to move boxes in and out of stores to the assembly lines more efficiently.
• Building and programming a new machine that replaced an older one that was critical to the production of Kraus & Naimer switchgear.
• Keeping up my skills as a PLC programmer, in 2016 I upgraded a bottling machine to an omron plc and designed a new program to increase efficiencies and production output.
• Starting my own photography business, taught me how to interact better with people.
• Keeping up my passion for continued learning, I did a Java foundations course, and I am currently doing an HTML5 course in web development.

Replacing and setting up spare parts including, robots, servo drives, vision systems and pneumatics and Supporting planned and unplanned downtime on the line, to ensure a speedy return to production.

Automation Technician & Project Leader

Oct 1995-Dec 2012

• In the role of Automation technician, I was responsible for the maintenance and repair of all the automatic machines on the factory floor.
• This included identifying and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and programming faults. Monitoring machine efficiencies and output levels, and working on continuous improvment strategies with minimum downtime.
• Preventive maintenance on pneumatics and wearing parts, including the design and manufacture of spare parts.
• Working closely with machine operators and assembly personnel, I designed and manufactured jig and fixture solutions in accordance with safety and work station ergonomics.
• Introducing a 5’s standard across several departments, including the toolroom, moulding shop, press shop and assembly floor.
• Working closely with other key personnel (electricians) I have mounted electrical equipment into the panel box and mounted pushbuttons on control panels.
• Maintenance and installation of hydraulic equipment, as well as bearing and bushing replacement.
• I was also responsible for the installation and commissioning of new machinery. ie- Laser Engraver, Pad Printer, Sepro Robots and Sprue Pickers.
• Working alone and as Project Leader, I have designed, built and programmed a number of custom automatic machines. From simple single station to multi station machines, (up to 10) PLC programming in Omron and Mitsubishi and working to strict timelines and budgets.
• I have trained mechanical personnel in maintenance of automats as well as machine operators in the operation and safety procedures of new machinery, as well as managing skilled toolmakers in the manufacture of high speed automat projects.
• Planning maintence strategies and spare part manufacture inline with machine and process validation & qualification requirements.
• I am computer literate and I am comfortable dismantling equipment to upgrade componants and installing new software.


Achievements




• Building a new machine that loads a square clamp and inserts a screw, the clamp is crimped so it doesn’t fall off the screw. The old machine produced 10,000pcs per shift (8hrs), with constant supervision from an operator, the new machine produced 27,000pcs per shift, with minimum interaction from an operator. (see video no.3)
• A new Omron PLC was fitted to a factory wide conveyor system, a new program was designed to send multible boxes to different locations around the factory floor on two levels (see video no.1)

• Read tool drawings.
• Vast experience on mills, lathes, grinders and bench hand tools.
• Machine and build injection moulds and press tools.
• Design and machine electrodes for EDM spark erosion.
• TIG & ARC welding experience.
• Trouble shoot tooling before going into production.
• Experience on Agie wire erosion, and spark erosion machines.
• Design and fabricate jigs, fixtures and templates for use as work aids in the assembly of switch gear products.
• Reached the finals of the national apprentice competition in Milling (1995), finishing in third position narrowly missing out on representing Ireland at the world skill olympics.

• I have been a passionate landscape photographer for as long as I can remember.
